Sometimes a brief comes along that is perfectly suited – this was one of them.
Over the last year or so we have built a great relationship with the Dakota Deluxe hotel group. They share similar values to us with regards to luxury, customer service and attention to detail. Having been fortunate enough to attend the opening of Dakota Deluxe in Glasgow and later to stay in one of their luxury suites, I’ve found the bar is now a frequent haunt of mine, either entertaining clients or holding meetings – the laid back yet luxurious feel of the space feels symbiotic with ten30 and is always an enjoyable experience.
After chatting with management about the possibility of working together, it became apparent that the shared values and aesthetic of Dakota and ten30 would be a perfect sartorial match. We were commissioned to design and produce a uniform for the new Salon Prive bar in the newly opened hotel in Leeds. The brief was all about contemporary nostalgia – reflecting the standards of the group and conjuring the nostalgia of luxury hotels of old.
For reference we looked at military Mess jackets and restaurants of the 20s and 30s, John Le Carre’s Night Manager and of course Llyod the iconic barman from The Overlook Hotel. The resulting jacket is cut from deep cherry wool blend with wide contrasting peaked lapels in black. Cut short with a high waist and single button, the uniform harks back to an era of elegance and exceptional service, brought back to life through the expert bar tenders wearing them.
I’m very much looking forward to sampling the new cocktail menu prepared by impeccably dressed barmen in unrivalled luxury surroundings.
